RHY-SNW’s latest US team edition Riley Nickerson tore up the streets of Bear with his fellow Gremlins on Snowboarder.com’s “Monday in The Parking Lot” segment this week. Vermont rider, 20 year old Riley Nickerson, has made Bear Mountain his home for this years season. Myself and US Marketing Manager Gus Cawley had the pleasure of attending opening day at Bear last Wednesday and took to the hill with Riley and fellow US team riders Steve Guillion, Dylan Lynch and Preston Harper. The boys took to the 25+ feature park setup like a fat kid to candy. The setup combined with bluebird skies and warm weather completed an EPIC opening day.
Peace.

The local groms or the “THE DON PATROL” from Santa Barbara High were out in force last week at the Scholastic Surf Series 2010. Not only did they outshine and blow rival school Buena High out of the water, they’ve got the metal hanging proudly around their necks to prove it and they did it in true Rhythm style.

Special thanks to Kim from Beach House Santa Barbara for providing the boys with the Rhythm swag.

A friend of mine came over the other day and casually asked if “i wanted to go for a ride on the goodyear blimp”…ever since i was a kid back in chicago i have loved that blimp…whenever it was in the sky i’d watch it until it was out of sight… every time i drive up the 405 freeway past the blimp’s headquarters in carson, ca i look for it. what is so cool about it? the shape…the striping…the logo. maybe the image of the ‘Hindenburg’ crashing nose-first in flames…’oh the humanity’. a lifetime of anticipating what it would be like to fly in it…totally lived up to the expectations. like riding in a nice minivan strapped under a hot air baloon…except no AC. amazing views of long beach, the queen mary, catalina and the channel islands west and downtown LA and big bear to the east. i would trade my earth-bound, gas-guzzling SUV in a heartbeat for a small blimp to cruise around town in. two thumbs up: for the open windows, really great crew and the ultra-smooth ride. thumbs down: for not having a bar on board. highly recommended for anybody lucky enough to have a friend who owns a tire dealership that carries goodyear, cuz thats the only way to get a ticket.

So this last weekend I decided to skip out on the usual Halloween mumbojumbo and escape to Joshua Tree to camp, hike, climb and act like a hippy. We scrambled all over some boulders, hiked around the desert, climbed some cliffs and spent some star filled nights around the campfire. One friend even set a a slackline and we all gave it a go. It feels so good to get away every once in a while and live life at a slower pace, and thats what we did. You should do the same.

Apparently the practice of saying something along the lines of, ‘rabbit, rabbit,’ ‘rabbit, rabbit, rabbit,’ or ‘white rabbit,’ upon waking on the first of each new month has been around since the 1800s. I was introduced to it by my mother in the early years of my life and have tried to spread the word to as many of my friends as possible in hopes of spreading global good luck. It might be a little late today as it is supposed to be the first thing out of your mouth on the first but we promise to give you a little heads up before the next one. And make sure not to forget the New Year’s ‘rabbit, rabbit,’ as some believe that it will give you good luck for the whole year.
Cheers.
Gus

Last Friday Sean Donovan owner and designer for local Californian apparel brand “Margie of California” dropped by the office to discuss with the Rhythm team about a possible collaboration. The unique mixture of Sean’s vintage graphics and Rhythm’s Cotton Surf Trunks will in turn result in a distinct and fun product. A bunch of ideas were thrown around and some promising and exciting progress was made. Sean’s a great guy and we’re happy to accommodate him and welcome him as a friend of Rhythm. Stay tuned for up and coming progress.
Peace.
