ADVENTURES IN TRANSITION | SEASON II EPISODE I

Monday, January 9th, 2012

There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to snow fall anymore. Between the farmers almanac predicting winter weather through the color of caterpillars and the flat out misjudgments of the local weatherman we have to be weary in what we believe. This is something that is out of our hands though and as much as we like to complain and “pray for snow”, every so many years there has to be a miserable season. Thankfully there is an easy answer to all this madness…fun. Find fun in everything you do and with whatever you have to work with. Its the only way to survive.

Much like everywhere else at the moment winter has yet to hit Colorado with its full fury. Fortunately for those of us in Colorado our resorts have the snow making capabilities and the sheer drive to build colossal park set ups. Without a doubt we are in the best place you could be for the start of the season. Even with a lack of white stuff we have been dedicated to getting shots and showing that it doesn’t take a whole lot to enjoy yourself. Between Breckenridge and Keystone we filmed this early season video of nothing absolutely breathtaking but mainly keeping our eye on the fun you can have in any aspect of winter. Even when conditions could be much more favorable.

yesterday seemed like of those days where nothing seems to come together quite correctly | you wake up at the time when you are already supposed to be somewhere else (1.5 hours away) and your have your shoes on under the covers | your phone is dead and you have no idea how or where to meet the two people you are supposed to be meeting at different times in different places | you find a common ground get everyone together and then have to buy chains | and then have to install the chains | and then your tire goes flat underneath the chains | and the vibration of the chains makes the 6 disc changer in your car skip and then stop completely | then its silent | just you and those around you who somehow aren’t angry with you | you wonder why until you exit the vehicle into complete silence (aside from the whistling of air still rapidly escaping your tire) | the falling snow mutes all sound and all you see is smiling faces | this is snowboarding |

then you get back to your car and are instantly shocked back to the real world as your roof rack has been sheared off of your roof |

CRYSTAL CASTLES | RENO

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

the following is recap of a recent crystal castles show in reno, nv written by a member of our snow team but signed only with a pen name | cheers

Crystal Castles: highly anticipated. Womp-womping Zed’s Dead and Mimosa: highly skeptical.

The former was just too enticing to let a bunch of glow-sticking, drugged out, minors dressed like fairies spoil the evening’s plans. To the Reno Events Center!

The little dub-step tweakers didn’t fail, however, neither did either of the openers. Mimosa got my feet moving before I was in the building and danced me into the stadium-like venue. They held a strong, infectious set for Zed’s Dead to follow. I think half of the audience was having an orgy. I’m not positive on account of I couldn’t stand still or stop thrashing my head during the duration of their set; they took old and new songs you know all the words to and raped them, slapping them in the mouth with demanding bass spurts and climbing claps. “Fuck yeah!” echoed for 15 minutes after their last song. Just enough time for Crystal Castles, with a drummer(!), to sneak on stage.

Fainting Spells crept up, building the crowd in frenzy with it. By the time the drummer started pounding, the whole place was in the air. By the time he dropped in on the second wave, Alice was crowd surfing and we had the room upside down. Every song played drove you further out of your body. Skin was crawling. They were fucked – acided Nintendo geniuses.

Eventually, they hit a chord and left. I yelled “Thank you!” and they came back, playing an epic two-song encore, the latter was the first unfamiliar song of the night, ending the night on a jubilantly felicitous and anxious note. I felt special just having the opportunity to dance to their sound all night.

The doors opened, spewing the crowd into the Reno streets; there could not be a better or more convincing city for them to spread some filth on. Necks and backs were stiff, making the crowd a walk of zombies released to ravage the Littlest City. It must be said again,

Thank you, Crystal Castles.
